Dumbledore stroked his beard and clapped vigorously as the Sorting came to a close and the Sorting hat was brisked away. The chatter of introductions and merriment immediately exploded amongst the houses as the new students began on their newest adventure of life. School.
He let the commotion continue for a few minutes before he stood and approached the elegant, brass, owl podium that stood majestically at the foot of the Great Hall, illuminated by the moon, magically transcended above the ceiling. He raised his hand and silence immediately fell
He looked around the hall at all the faces staring up at him, after everything going on in the world he was amazed at how ordinary this whole thing seemed, school. He smiled
"Pass the parcel" he said "Sometimes, that's all you can do. Not for me, not for you, but for someone, somewhere, someday. Take it, feel it, and pass it on. That's the game I want you to play, pass it on"
He waved his wand and the school banners descended out of thin air, Gryffindor, blazoned a bloody red with a golden lion roaring proudly in its center. Hufflepuff, the calm yellow guarded by a black and noble badger. Ravenclaw, royal blue, a bronze eagle soaring majestically and wisely across it, and Slytherin, it's poisonous green banner, a silver serpent entwined deadly on it.
"Welcome back all of you, and to all out new additions welcome even more, I trust you all had an enjoying summer" he said, the hall took an eerie sensation "In light of all the events that have flown around the world recently I must remind you all that out there there will always be people trying to bring you down, hurt you, stop you in your tracks"
He walked from behind the podium, directing his words at each student individually
"But that is life" he said softly "Love apart, it is the only education worth having. No matter how much we teach you in terms of Charms and Transfiguration, Herbology or Potions, it is nothing to what life will teach you overall"
The hall was silent, Dumbledore returned to his podium
"Now onto the announcements, first some more introductions" he stepped back so the students could see the staff table "Every year I must introduce a new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, and this year is no exception, may I introduce Professor Ferri who will also be temporarily taking over Head of Gryffindor House while Professor McGonagall tends to her sick mother"
The hall applaused, Dumbledore raised his hand to resume order
"Also Professor Flitwick is also ill so Ravenclaw House and Charms lessons will be taken by Professor de Noir for the foreseeable future" He finished "Good luck Professor's"
"On top of this we will also be joined this year by a Ministry issued inspector, but not to worry she is here for us not you" he smiled "but all the same please kindly welcome Miss Umbridge"
"Finally a few announcements, as always the Dark Forest on the edge of the grounds" he said "Also, our esteemed caretaker, Mr Filch, has asked me to warn you all that any Weasley Wizard Wheezes products will be confiscated...if caught"
He looked over his glasses down the bridge of his crooked nose at the two identical ginger entrepreneurs, grinning cheekily.
"That only leaves me with these word" he smiled "Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak! Let the Feast begin!"
He stretched his arms out dramatically as the golden plates piled with mouth-watering food as the magnificent goblets filled with quenching liquid.
A New Year had Begun

Post by Georgia Hembree on Jun 11, 2011 21:17:05 GMT
The train ride to Hogwarts was rather boring to Georgia. Sitting in a compartment full on whining first years took a toll on her. She was nice to them, but they drove her crazy when she didn't know any answers to most of thier questions. She tried to based them on what her mother had told her since she went here, but she rarely remembered what she said just that it was a nice school, had four houses, and a Quidditch team. She had already signed premission to go to Hogsmeade, a wizarding village outside of Hogwarts. She wished that they allowed muggle stuff like a mp3 player or something she didn't care for the wizarding type of music. She mostly favored her muggle side. Plus she was used to a whole different school system like at her school it was like a wizarding style middle/high school, but without uniforms or houses. Like muggle schools they got out at 3:30p.m everyday. So going to a wizarding style boarding school with houses and uniforms just wasn't her cup of tea as her mother put it. Still she had no choice, but to put up with it.
Once the train pulled into the station it was already pitch black due to nightfall outside. She had to leave her luggage on the train including her owl Channing, who through a fit. She followed a small group of students that were transfers like herself to the castle to be sorted immediently before the first years. One thing was for she it would be embrassing to be standing among younger children. Georgia rode on a carriage that droved itself up to the gates of the school where she followed the transfers into the Great Hall which she was amazed at especailly the ceiling on how it reflected the night sky outside. She followed the others into a back room and waited until it was her turn to be sorted. She figured it would be Gryffindor or Ravenclaw since her mother was a graduate from Gryffindor. Sadly, she was sorted into Hufflepuff. Why? She had no clue. She did see her cousin or Aunt Minvera walking to to greet the first years as she and the others changed into their house uniforms. Georgia would be in the 5th year which was sort of bad due that she never even heard of the O.W.L.S before. She had a hunch that it was a major test and most likely she would fail it or pass it by the skin of her teeth due that she was a bad test taker.
She went to set at the Hufflepuff table which a few students looked like they had a problem with her. Seriously this must be the 'i'm better then anyone else' house. Georgia knew that this year might be a problem. She watched as the Hufflepuff table and the others filled up and as usual she was the oddball eventhough she tried talking to people. Was it because she was American or well...from America? Who knew. She looked around for a few moments watching the staff table become full. She did see Dumbledore in the middle on the stylish high back Headmaster chair, but then she saw the most god awful woman at the end who was dress from head to toe in pink. Just looking at her made her have an uneasy feeling that her first year at Hogwarts as a 5th year wouldn't be a fun one to talk about later on. Not too long after this she saw her Aunt Minvera enter with a bunch of new 1st years behind her. The sorting took forever and the Hufflepuff house was almost overflowing with new students. Some had to be hundled together like a can of sardenes.
When Dumbledore got up the whole room went quiet and so did she. Like everyone in the wizarding world in every country respected Dumbledore. She watched as the house banners appear over each table before she turned her attention back to the Staff table to listen to his speech. She almost rolled her eyes at the 'trust you all had a good summer' not unless your parents spilt up, but she didn't roll her eyes. She defiently agreed to the next thing he said, "Amen brother." she whispered knowing how that was at her old school and in the real world. She was puzzled by these new school subjects that they never taught at her school maybe something like it. She knew that this year was going to be very difficult for her.
Her eyes and attention popped back up to Dumbledore, who said something about DADA which striked her interest, but faded when she nodded knowing about the sick mother problem. Her mother had told her about that before she left to come here. She didn't clap with the rest of the hall, but hopefully she would met her Aunt Minvera, who was her cousin during class that she taught. Georgia's interest faded and she looked around the room. So many changes why didn't her mother tell her about this. Not even her old school had this many changes. Once he mentioned the DADA again and the Ministry she looked at that horrible woman at the end of the staff teacher. That teacher had a name? She reminded Georgia of Cruella Deville off one the muggle movie 101 Dalmations. Just even looking at her mind her very uneasy.
She almost laughed about the jokes and pranks products. Nearly every staff member would have a headache. Still she had to remind herself that this place was different then her old school in America and things were run differently here. She looked at Dumbledore who confused her with the three words, but when she turned around she met a table lined with food and drinks. She only just picked at her food due to the uneasy feeling of the new teacher and being a transfer student.

The sorting was one of the worst things he had ever faced, nerve wise anyways. Seriously! The eleven year boy would have had to have had his hands handcuffed to his sides to stop him from tearing his hair out if he had had to wait any longer. Oh well. It was over and done with. He was a Gryffindor. Just like his grandpa. Just like his sister. Just like.... His thoughts were interupted by his great uncle's words. Delwyn listened quite contemptedly, having never truely heard the man speak before he hung onto every word even laughing a little when the times called for it.
And suddenly there it was! The food! Ribs; chicken; chips; steak and kidney pie; anything a boy could ever DREAM of was right there! All on one table! He saw one of his fellow first year Gryffindors' pick one of everything, taking a bite out of it before placing it on his plate. Well.... that was one way to ensure no one stole his food! Eagerly he grabbed a plateful of food, ensuring to save room for the desserts that Circe had said appeared during one of her stories about the school. At least he wasn't the only new student to the school as he could already tell that he'd get lost amongst the Castle's maze.

Post by Aidan Wraith on Jun 14, 2011 9:58:04 GMT
Aidan sat at the Slytherin table absently spinning a knife between his index finger and the table, his other hand cradling the side of his head as he stared disinterestedly at them. For him it was just another year at the same old school, except now he thought it would be even worse. Keeping up the spinning he surreptitiously glanced down his houses table, he knew this year could possibly be one of his worst, before he had been ignored by most of his house mates because of his half-blood status, but now; with the Dark Lord's return he knew they wouldn't be so ignorant any more so he would have to watch his back even more this year
Heaving a deep but quiet sigh he returned his gaze to his knife spinning before once again looking around the Great Hall, he spotted many people he knew the names of, even if they didn't know who the hell he was, he spotted Georgia Hembree sat almost alone at the Hufflepuff table and wondered why before shrugging and looking around again before being distracted by Dumbledore standing up to make his speech
He listened closely when the names of the new teachers were mentioned making sure to look and memorize their faces unless he met them in the halls or needed to speak to a professor for some reason he began to loose interest again until Dumbledore mentioned a Ministry Official visiting and he turned to see who it was. As his eyes fell on the garish pink thing sat at the teachers table and had to grip the knife he had previously been spinning tightly to prevent him from throwing it, because the woman who stood there was the same woman he had learnt that had sent the Auror's to raid his home years before which ended in the deaths of his mother and sister
Fist clenched tight he ignored the sharp sting that told him he had gripped the knife hard enough to cut his palm as he moved his gaze away from the woman to try and calm himself a little, his face a blank mask but his eyes blazed with anger and hate which he tried to suppress for now, blinking he realised that the tables had filled with food and forcing his fingers to loosen he put the knife back on the table placing the wounded hand under the table and absently putting some food on his plate with his good hand and playing with it, his appetite lost

Post by Draco Malfoy on Jun 26, 2011 22:32:39 GMT
Draco sat regally in his usual place on the table, coldly staring around the room in disinterest, the lustre of Hogwarts for some reason loosing its hold over him as it had previous years before, he barely paid any attention to what Dumbledore was saying, having gotten all the information he needed from his father before he stepped foot on the train
He knew that the Ministry had placed one of their own within the Defence Against the Dark Arts position and that he was to stay on their good side by any means necessary, well he thought with a small smirk if it helps me get that damn Potter into trouble I'd gladly do anything he said eyes glancing to the Gryffindor table not far from their own, however a sudden movement caught his attention to his right from his own table, turning his head slightly he saw a boy from the year above him spinning a knife between his fingers and table apparently in boredom
The boy he knew was called Aidan, they were both part of the Slytherin Quidditch team, he being the Seeker and Aidan the Keeper, the whole of the Slytherin team was good and normally would thrash the other teams, again if not for that damn Potter
Seeing Aidan suddenly grip the knife he had been spinning, tightly in his hand he followed the hate filled glare to the teachers table where the pink monstrosity known as Umbridge stood he hmmed softly in thought. Hmm it seems our Keeper has a grudge against Umbridge, I'd better check what it is before he ruins my fathers plans for this year, I might be able to turn it to my advantage, he thought as he glanced back at Aidan to see him once again staring at his plate
Leaving him for now he turned back to face the table in time to see them fill with food, he wasn't particularly hungry, having eaten on the train there but seeing the bowl of fresh green apples in front of him he couldn't help himself, they were his favourite after all, reaching forward he took one and took a small bite, savouring the taste . . . . well at least the food here was still good he thought, I'll have to see what the rest of the year brings

Post by Hermione Granger on Jun 27, 2011 15:28:22 GMT
Hermione walked besides the other students as she entered the Great Hall. All of the magic in the room never failed to amaze her. She took her seat at the Gryffindor table, besides her friends, and watched closely as the first years were sorted into houses. She clapped politely for each student, but applauded louder for students of her own house.
She listened carefully to every word Dumbledore said, and although she was disappointed with some of the changes, like Professor McGonagall being away, she clapped for the new professors. She couldnt help but wonder what would happen to the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher this year. Something always seemed to go wrong for them.
The announcement about the person from the Ministry made her pay attention even more. The name sounded familiar, she must have read about her in a book or something.
She couldnt help but chuckle at the message about the Weasley twins products. It seemed like those two were always up to something.
At the end of the announcements, she watched the food appear on the tables. Magic. She looked at her friends and wondered what their thoughts on the Ministry worker was. She decided she'd ask them later, after all he excitement from the feast wore off.
She filled a plate with food at looked around the room one more time, making sure she'd caught all the spells and charms that were used around the room. Hermione smiled. She belonged at Hogwarts.
WORD COUNT: 265 NOTES: That post was a lot of rambling.. sorry

can you feel this magic in the air? it must have been the way you kissed me, The start of term was always hectic. First Years and transfer students milled round Hagrid and were told to wait for the sorting to begin. Justin had changed into his school robes, thinking about the summer gone. He had spent the majority of it with Liberty, a Hufflepuff girl, and his new girlfriend. They had recently started dating. It was wonderful – he now knew how Tristan had felt when they were dating. He went with the other Fifth Years on the Threstal-drawn carriages.
Justin was sat amongst the fellow Ravenclaws and listened to the Headmaster speak, after that horrid-looking woman had spoke her part. The new Ravenclaw First Years listened with such intensity that the Ravenclaw boy thought that some may stay there for the rest of the night. Then his encounter with his House Founder, Rowena Ravenclaw, came back as a daydream. The task ahead of him was a big and daunting one, and one that he didn’t want to fail his ancestor. He didn’t even know how he’d find out who the other descendants were, he couldn’t round the other Houses and randomly ask people – it’d be weird.
Justin continued to be in his daydream until someone prodded him and pointed to the food. He smiled sheepishly and thanked his Housemate. He then tucked in to the food, introducing himself to the First Years and spoke to the other Fifth Years about his summer.
