Lyra was sat on a bench in the courtyard utterly board out of her mind at the prospect of having nothing to do. Her parents had told her that there would never be a dull moment at Hogwarts. Yeah that might be true for them but they didn't have a condition that made anytime that she wasn't doing something drag out like she had a spell cast on her to slow down time so every second became a minute and every minute became an hour. ADHD was something that ruled Lyra’s life something terrible and it had gotten her into trouble on more than one occasion. She had been told off for not listening in class when she just couldn't hold her concentration if she wasn't interested. Professor Binns was constantly docking her house points from Gryffindor as she was always ‘of in her own world’ in his class. Though if she was being honest she didn't even try to concentrate on what the old ghost was saying as she didn't find anything he said particularly interesting. Only time she really listened in his class was when they was doing about Merlin and King Arthur as that was probably one of the only bit of wizarding history that she was interested in.
It also didn't help that the old jabber box often went off on a tangent about something completely unrelated or some random thing that happened to him when he was alive. Ghosts where the worst teachers in that respect as they always had something to top whatever you moaned about by bring out the ‘well I’m dead’ card. That’s the real reason ghost hang around after death to moan at those still living about being dead and make people feel bad for being alive. Not all ghosts where as bad as professor Binns thankfully as Nearly Headless Nick her house ghost was quite alright and tended to be rather happy especially around Gryffindors. Also the Fat Friar was quite cheery during the times she’d seen him at the school feasts. So not all ghost where moaning and whining gas bags. Just most of them. Though Lyra would rather have a living person teach her in class as they couldn't moan about her for being dead and not being able to enjoy the pleasures of the living. Professor Binns always says ‘don’t waste this time while you are young, energetic and living as once they go you’ll never get them back.’
Lyra knew he was right but she couldn't help the daydreaming and most teachers didn't seem to understand that. Just because ADHD wasn't a magical condition didn't mean that it couldn't occur in witches and wizards. She was a halfblood and there for half muggle so it would be safe to assume that she could have a non magical condition. As wizards could get colds which wasn't a magical occurrence so why not ADHD as well. Professor McGonagall seemed to understand though as she knew Lyra better as she was her head of house. Or was her head of house anyway as this year she’d stepped down in order to be able to look after her mother. Lyra just hoped that this Professor Ferri would be as understanding as Professor McGonagall had been. Though if she wasn't hopefully he would be as bad as Professor Snape who said ‘just because you have a condition doesn't mean you have to let it get in the way of your studies, Miss James.” Well doesn't that just make everything seem a whole lot cleared and brighter for Lyra now that he put it in that light.
What Snape needed to get though his thick skull was that she couldn't do that. It wasn't as if she could just take a tablet and it would be gone with a snap of her fingers. It also wasn't a condition that could be cure with a flick of a wand either so it wasn't going to go away anytime soon. Sighing she learnt against the wall at the back of the bench she was sitting one. Life could be so frustrating at times which was why she loved being her time in the circus in the summer as there she was never board and even though she couldn't us magic herself yet she was still surrounded by it. Her family’s circus was one of a kind as it was the only one that was made by wizards for wizards. Sure there was other wizarding circus but they went out to dazzle muggles with their magic which was why muggles where amazed by the acts they could put on. Bringing her head forward a little so she could see the people walking in though the courtyard as they made their way to various places around the school.
